West Kennet long barrow is a Neolithic chambered long mound located in Wiltshire, approximately 800 metres south-east of Silbury Hill, and represents one of the most substantial burial monuments of its type in Britain, dating to around 3650 to 2500 BCE. The barrow measures approximately 100 metres in length and originally stood some 2.4 metres in height, comprising a sarsen stone kerb and internal stone chambers arranged along a central axis, which contained the remains of numerous interred individuals. Excavations in the 1950s revealed evidence of primary and secondary burials spanning several centuries, indicating the monument's use as a communal burial place across the Neolithic period. The site displays the characteristic architecture of the Cotswold-Severn group of long barrows, with a forecourt entrance, passage, and multiple side chambers, and remains one of the most archaeologically significant monuments within the Avebury complex of Neolithic sites.
