Westfield enclosure is a post-medieval defensive structure situated in Angus, Scotland. The site occupies ground underlain by Arbuthnott-Garvock Group sandstones of Pragian age, overlaid with locally derived stone and soil that would have been readily available for construction. The enclosure's southwestern location reflects settlement patterns typical of early modern rural Angus, where farmsteads and protective boundaries were positioned to exploit accessible building materials and sloping terrain.
The enclosure represents a phase of Scottish rural settlement when landholders fortified their properties against stock theft and social unrest. Its form follows conventions established during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, when defensive earthworks and rubble walls became standard features of tenant and minor gentry holdings across lowland Scotland. The Pragian bedrock, resistant to weathering, would have provided durable stone for walling.
