Woden Law is a hillfort of Iron Age date situated in Roxburghshire, in the Scottish Borders, which occupies a prominent position commanding the surrounding landscape. The fort is remarkable for the exceptionally well-preserved Roman siegeworks that surround it, consisting of a series of circumvallation lines and siege camps constructed during the Roman military campaigns in Scotland, most likely during the governorship of Agricola in the late first century AD. The hillfort itself comprises multiple ramparts and ditches, typical of substantial Iron Age defensive settlements, whilst the superimposed Roman military earthworks provide rare archaeological evidence of Roman siege tactics and strategy in Britain. The dual archaeological interest of the site—representing both Iron Age settlement and Roman military engineering—makes it an exceptionally significant monument for understanding the interaction between indigenous British communities and Roman imperial forces.
