History & significance

Wyke monastic grange is a scheduled ancient monument comprising the earthwork remains of a medieval agricultural establishment located in Berkshire, approximately 780 metres south of Tudor Farm. The grange represents the physical infrastructure of monastic land management, typical of the medieval period when religious houses maintained outlying farms to generate income and sustenance. The site retains visible earthworks indicative of its former layout, though the structures themselves no longer survive above ground level. An 18th-century turnpike road runs through or adjoins the monument, representing a later phase of activity across the landscape that would have significantly altered the medieval topography.
