York prebendary manor moated site is a medieval residential enclosure located approximately 300 metres north-west of Hawthorn Farm in Yorkshire. The site comprises a moated platform characteristic of high-status medieval settlement, representing a minor manorial holding of the type commonly associated with prebendal estates attached to York Minster during the medieval period. The moat and internal features indicate occupation and use during the later medieval centuries, when such defended or water-surrounded domestic sites were favoured by clergy and minor nobility throughout northern England. The survival of the earthwork as an upstanding archaeological feature preserves evidence of medieval settlement patterns and the territorial organisation of ecclesiastical properties in the York region.
