Significance

Historical significance

Ryknild Street was a major north–south arterial route linking the Fosse Way frontier zone with the legionary hinterland of the East Midlands and South Yorkshire, and this section provided the overland connection between the Derbyshire lead-mining region around Lutudarum and the Trent valley supply network. Its alignment also shaped later medieval parish boundaries and tracks in the Ticknall area.

Archaeology

Archaeological record

The line of the road here is preserved largely as a cropmark and earthwork agger visible on aerial photography and LiDAR, with the modern lane and field boundaries following its alignment; no major published excavation has targeted this specific section, and finds from the immediate stretch are limited.
