Vieux-Rouen-sur-Bresle lies in the Bresle valley in the northern Pays de Bray, on the frontier between the civitates of the Bellovaci and the Ambiani (or possibly within the Caleti's territory). The site is identified in the Barrington Atlas as a Roman villa, presumably active during the principate (1st–3rd centuries AD) like most rural establishments of the region, though I have no precise dating evidence for this specific site.

The villa formed part of the dense network of agricultural estates exploiting the fertile valleys of northwestern Gallia Belgica, situated in the hinterland of Rotomagus (Rouen) and within reach of the road system linking Amiens, Beauvais, and the Channel coast. Its position in the Bresle valley placed it in a productive zone of mixed arable and pastoral farming typical of villa economies in this part of Gaul.
