Combats about Lost Mountain was a Civil War engagement fought in Georgia, 1864.
During the Atlanta campaign of the Civil War, Sherman's Union forces clashed repeatedly with Joseph E. Johnston's Confederate army along a line running northeast from Lost Mountain through Pine Mountain to Brushy Mountain, with fighting continuing from June 10 through June 19. Gilgal Church marked one of these engagements, where divisions under John W. Geary and Daniel Butterfield, part of Joseph Hooker's XX Corps, pressed forward against entrenched Confederates from William J. Hardee's corps only to be driven back, sustaining roughly 700 casualties in the process. On the same day, elsewhere along the front, a separate contingent of Union soldiers broke through a Confederate skirmish line and seized approximately 300 prisoners. This clash at the church was one among several smaller engagements during the campaign, a group that also included the fighting at Latimer's Farm on June 17 and 18.
