Biography

Aaron Beck was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1921 and died in 2021. He was a psychiatrist and professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Beck developed cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy, and created the Beck Depression Inventory, a self-report measure for depression. In 1994 he and his daughter Judith S. Beck founded the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy, where he served as President Emeritus until his death.
