Adelaide Hall was born in Brooklyn in 1901 and became a jazz singer and entertainer whose career lasted more than 70 years beginning in 1921. She was a major figure in the Harlem Renaissance during her early years, then relocated to the UK after 1938. Hall recorded with Duke Ellington and Fats Waller and performed alongside artists including Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Josephine Baker, and Ethel Waters, among others.
