Alan Ladd was an American actor and film producer born in Hot Springs, Arkansas in 1913. He achieved success in film during the 1940s and early 1950s, working frequently in film noir and Westerns. Ladd appeared with Veronica Lake in several noir films including This Gun for Hire, The Glass Key, and The Blue Dahlia. He made his first Western and color film with Whispering Smith in 1948, and later appeared in Shane in 1953.
