Alex Groza was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, in 1926 and died in 1995. He was a professional basketball player and coach who won two NCAA championships as captain of the University of Kentucky Wildcats and was selected as an All-NBA player twice for the Indianapolis Olympians. In 1951, he was banned from the NBA for life as a result of the college basketball point-shaving scandal, which ended his playing career.
