Arnold Denker was born in the Bronx in 1914 and died on January 2, 2005. He was an American chess player and author who won the U.S. championship in 1944 and 1946. Later in life he held positions in chess organizations and received recognition from the United States Chess Federation, including the title "Dean of American Chess" in 2004.
