Art Blakey was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 11, 1919, and died on October 16, 1990. An American jazz drummer and bandleader, he also converted to Islam for a short time in the late 1940s, at which point he became known as Abdullah Ibn Buhaina. He worked as a composer and actor in addition to his work as a musician.
