Biography
Arthur Dove was born in Canandaigua, New York in 1880 and died in 1946. He worked as a draftsperson and painter, creating abstractions and abstract landscapes using varied media, sometimes in unconventional combinations. In the 1920s he made experimental collages, and later experimented with techniques including hand-mixed oil or tempera applied over wax emulsion, as seen in his 1938 work Tanks, held at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
