Barbara Bel Geddes was born in New York City in 1922 and worked as a stage actor, film actor, television actor, children's writer, and artist until her death in 2005. She won a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award, and received nominations for an Academy Award and two Tony Awards. She appeared in the films I Remember Mama (1948) and Vertigo (1958), and played Maggie in the original Broadway production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in 1955. She starred as Miss Ellie Ewing in the television series Dallas.
