Benjamin Harrison was born on August 20, 1833, in North Bend, Ohio, and died on March 13, 1901. He served as the 23rd president of the United States from 1889 to 1893, having defeated the incumbent Grover Cleveland in the 1888 election. Harrison was a grandson of William Henry Harrison, the ninth president, and a great-grandson of Benjamin Harrison V, a Founding Father. He was a Union army veteran and a Republican who worked as a lawyer, writer, military officer, jurist, and statesperson.
