Biography
Billy Barty was born in Millsboro, Pennsylvania in 1924 and worked as a film, television, stage, and voice actor. His height of 3 feet 9 inches resulted from cartilage-hair hypoplasia dwarfism, and he was frequently cast opposite taller performers for comedic purposes, often playing outspoken or wisecracking characters. During the 1950s he appeared regularly in the Spike Jones television ensemble, and in the early 1970s he took on various roles in children's television programs produced by Sid and Marty Krofft. He founded the Little People of America organization in 1957 as an activist for people with dwarfism and died in 2000.
