Blind Willie McTell was born in Georgia in 1901 and worked as a blues musician, guitarist, and songwriter until his death in 1959. He played Piedmont blues and ragtime with a fluid, syncopated finger-picking technique on twelve-string guitars and could also play slide guitar. His tenor singing voice distinguished his work from many of his contemporaries, and he recorded more than 120 titles across fourteen recording sessions in blues, ragtime, religious music, and hokum styles.
