Carrie Nation was born in Garrard County, Kentucky in 1846 and worked as a journalist and writer. She became known for attacking alcohol-serving establishments with a hatchet as part of the American temperance movement, which opposed alcohol consumption before Prohibition. She was married twice, first in 1867 and again to David Nation in 1874. She died in 1911.
