Biography
Carroll O'Connor was born in New York City on August 2, 1924, and worked as a film and television actor, stage actor, film and television producer, and screenwriter. He appeared in All in the Family from 1971 to 1979 as Archie Bunker, followed by Archie Bunker's Place from 1979 to 1983, and later starred in In the Heat of the Night from 1988 to 1995 as police chief William Gillespie. He won five Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe Award. O'Connor died on June 21, 2001.
