Biography

Catherine Hardy Lavender was born in Carrollton, Georgia in 1930 and worked as a sprinter. She competed mainly in the 100-meter dash and won an Olympic gold medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1952 Olympic Summer Games in Helsinki, Finland. After her athletic career, she taught in Atlanta schools for 30 years and had children. She died in 2017.
