Charles Bronson was born in 1921 in Ehrenfeld, Pennsylvania, a coal mining town in the Allegheny Mountains, and worked in the mines before joining the United States Army Air Forces in 1943 to fight in World War II. After his military service, he studied acting with a theatrical troupe and appeared in supporting roles across motion pictures and television during the 1950s, including anthology drama series where he played main characters. His first cinematic leading role came in Machine-Gun Kelly in 1958. He worked as a film actor, television actor, and screenwriter until his death in 2003.
