Biography
Charles Tilly was born in Lombard, Illinois in 1929 and worked as a sociologist, political scientist, and historian. He held a professorship at the University of Michigan spanning 1969 to 1984, teaching history, sociology, and social science. He then became the Joseph L. Buttenwieser Professor of Social Science at Columbia University. He died in 2008.
