Biography

Denton True "Cy" Young was born in Gilmore, Ohio in 1867 and worked on his family's farm before pursuing baseball. He pitched in the major leagues beginning in 1890 with the Cleveland Spiders of the National League, remaining with that team until 1898, when he moved to the St. Louis Cardinals. Young joined the American League in 1901, pitching for the Boston Red Sox from then until 1908 and contributing to their 1903 World Series victory. He concluded his career with the Cleveland Naps and Boston Rustlers before retiring in 1911.
