Biography

Daniel Boone was born in Oley Valley, Pennsylvania in 1734 and worked as an explorer, traveler, hunter, and politician. In 1775, commissioned by Judge Richard Henderson's Transylvania Company, he marked the Wilderness Road through the Cumberland Gap into Kentucky and established Boonesborough, one of the first English-speaking settlements beyond the Appalachian Mountains. By the close of the eighteenth century, more than 200,000 people had traveled into Kentucky by way of the route he had marked. He died in 1820.
