Daniel Keyes was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1927 and worked as a science fiction writer, novelist, journalist, and screenwriter. He authored the novel Flowers for Algernon. In 2000, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America granted him the Author Emeritus honor. He died on June 15, 2014.
