David Van Cortlandt Crosby was born in Los Angeles on August 14, 1941, and died on January 18, 2023. He was a singer, songwriter, and guitarist who was a member of the Byrds, where he contributed to the development of folk rock and psychedelia in the mid-1960s. He later performed in Crosby, Stills & Nash, which helped popularize the California sound of the 1970s. Crosby was known for his outspoken personality and politics, and was sometimes depicted as emblematic of the counterculture of the 1960s.
