Biography

David M. Brown was born on April 16, 1956, in Arlington County, Virginia. He served as a circus performer, military officer, physician, and astronaut. Brown became an astronaut in 1996 but did not serve on a space mission before his death on February 1, 2003, when Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated during reentry into Earth's atmosphere on his first spaceflight. He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.
