Biography

David Sanborn was an American alto saxophonist who began playing the instrument at age 11. He worked across multiple musical genres, blending jazz with instrumental pop and R&B in his solo recordings. His first solo album, Taking Off, came out in 1975. As a session musician, he played on albums by artists including Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, Sting, the Eagles, Rickie Lee Jones, James Brown, George Benson, Carly Simon, Elton John, Bryan Ferry, Ween, and The Rolling Stones. He released more than 20 albums and won six Grammy awards.
