Biography

Donald Barthelme was born in Philadelphia in 1931 and died in 1989. He worked as a short story writer, novelist, and newspaper reporter for the Houston Post, and served as managing editor of Location magazine and director of the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston from 1961 to 1962. Barthelme was a co-founder of Fiction magazine and one of the original founders of the University of Houston Creative Writing Program, where he later taught.
