Edith Bolling Galt Wilson was born in Wytheville, Virginia in 1872 and died in 1961. She became First Lady of the United States in 1915 as the second wife of President Woodrow Wilson, whom she married in December of that year. After Wilson suffered a stroke in October 1919, Wilson managed the office of the president for the remainder of his term, controlling which communications and matters of state reached the bedridden president.
