Biography

Edward C. Prescott was born on December 26, 1940, in Glens Falls, New York, and worked as an economist. In 2004, he received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics, which he shared with Finn E. Kydland for their work on dynamic macroeconomics, including research on the time consistency of economic policy and business cycles. Much of this research took place while both men were at Carnegie Mellon University's Graduate School of Industrial Administration. In August 2014, Prescott became an Adjunct Distinguished Economic Professor at the Australian National University in Canberra. He died on November 6, 2022, at age 81.
