Biography

Eleanor Garatti was born in Belvedere, California in 1909 and became a competition swimmer for the San Rafael and Western Women's Swim Clubs. She won gold medals in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay at the 1928 and 1932 Olympics and held world records in sprint freestyle events. After marrying Lawrence Saville, a construction engineer, in June 1930, she lived in San Francisco and helped establish Marin County's first Red Cross Swimming program.
