Eliot Ness was born in Chicago in 1903 and worked as a criminologist, police officer, jurist, politician, and screenwriter. During Prohibition he served as a federal agent engaged in efforts against Al Capone in Chicago, leading a team of law enforcement agents called The Untouchables, selected for their resistance to corruption. His memoir The Untouchables was released after his death in 1957 and prompted multiple screen adaptations.
