Biography

Ernest King was born in Lorain, Ohio on November 23, 1878, and became a naval officer and admiral. During World War II, he served as Commander in Chief of the United States Fleet and Chief of Naval Operations, holding both positions simultaneously. Franklin Delano Roosevelt appointed him to command global American strategy during the war, and he was the Navy's second-most senior officer after Fleet Admiral William D. Leahy. King died on June 25, 1956.
