Biography

Ethel Catherwood was born on April 28, 1908, in Hannah, North Dakota. A javelin thrower and high jumper, she competed for Canada at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, where she won a gold medal in the high jump with a jump of 1.59 metres. She was a member of Canada's first Olympic women's track and field team, which competed in the first Olympic Games to include women's athletics. Catherwood died on September 26, 1987.
