Biography
Eugene O'Neill was born in New York City on October 16, 1888, and died on November 27, 1953. As a playwright and writer, he introduced drama techniques of realism to the United States, drawing on methods associated with Chekhov, Ibsen, and Strindberg. His play Long Day's Journey into Night appears on lists of the finest American plays of the twentieth century. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1936 and won four Pulitzer Prizes for Drama.
