Biography

Finley Peter Dunne was born in Chicago in 1867 and worked as a journalist, writer, and screenwriter. In 1898 he published Mr. Dooley in Peace and in War, a collection of his nationally syndicated Mr. Dooley sketches that depicted an Irish immigrant character commenting on political and social issues from a South Side Chicago pub. His newspaper column became so widely read that it was read each week at White House cabinet meetings during President Theodore Roosevelt's administration.
