Gene Sharp was an American political scientist, pacifist, sociologist, philosopher, and writer. Born in North Baltimore, Ohio in 1928, he founded the Albert Einstein Institution, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the study of nonviolent action, and served as professor of political science at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He wrote extensively on nonviolent struggle, and his work influenced anti-government resistance movements around the world. He died in 2018.
