Biography

George Brinton McClellan was born in Philadelphia in 1826 and died in 1885. He served as Commanding General of the United States Army from November 1861 to March 1862 and was the unsuccessful Democratic Party candidate in the 1864 presidential election. McClellan held the office of governor of New Jersey from 1878 to 1881, and worked as chief engineer and vice president of the Illinois Central Railroad and as president of the Ohio and Mississippi Railroad in 1860.
