George Clinton was born on July 26, 1739, in Little Britain, New York. He served as the first governor of New York from 1777 to 1795 and again from 1801 to 1804. Clinton held the office of vice president from 1805 until his death on April 20, 1812, serving under both Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. He was the first vice president to die in office.
