George Sidney was born in Queens, New York in 1916 and worked as a film director and producer, primarily for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. He directed musicals including Annie Get Your Gun, Show Boat, Kiss Me Kate, Jupiter's Darling, Pal Joey, Bye Bye Birdie, and Viva Las Vegas. Sidney served as president of the Screen Directors Guild for 16 years and died in 2002.
