George Wendt was born in Chicago in 1948 and worked as a film, television, and stage actor and comedian. He played Norm Peterson on the NBC sitcom Cheers from 1982 to 1993, a role that earned him six consecutive nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. After Cheers ended, he starred in the CBS sitcom The George Wendt Show in 1995.
