Biography

Hélène de Pourtalès was born in New York City in 1868 and became a sailor who competed for Switzerland at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris. She won an Olympic gold medal at those Games, and was the first woman to do so. She was also the first woman to represent Switzerland at the Olympics.
