Harold Bloom
American literary critic, scholar, and writer (1930–2019)
Biography
Harold Bloom was born in New York City in 1930 and became a literary critic and Sterling Professor of humanities at Yale University. He published his first book in 1959 and went on to write more than 50 books, including over 40 works of literary criticism, several books on religion, and one novel. Bloom edited hundreds of anthologies for Chelsea House publishing and was elected to the American Philosophical Society in 1995. He died in 2019.
