Harold Andrew Blackmun was a lawyer and judge born in Nashville, Illinois in 1908. He served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1970 to 1994, following his appointment by President Richard Nixon. He authored the Court's opinion in Roe v. Wade. He died in 1999.
