Biography

Haskell Wexler was born in Chicago in 1922 and worked as a filmmaker, cinematographer, documentarian, director, and screenwriter. He received the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in 1966 and for Bound for Glory in 1976, with five cinematography nominations overall. His directorial work included documentary and docufiction films that addressed socio-political themes, drawing from the civil rights movement and counterculture of the 1960s. He died in 2015.
