Helen Rowland was born in Washington, D.C. in 1876 and worked as a journalist and humorist. She wrote a newspaper column for the New York World titled "Reflections of a Bachelor Girl," and selections from her columns appeared in several books: Reflections of a Bachelor Girl (1909), The Rubáiyát of a Bachelor (1915), and A Guide to Men (1922). She died on January 1, 1950.
