Hilary Putnam
American philosopher
Biography
Hilary Putnam was born in Chicago in 1926 and worked as a philosopher, mathematician, and computer scientist. He contributed to philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, philosophy of mathematics, and philosophy of science. With Martin Davis he developed the Davis–Putnam algorithm for the Boolean satisfiability problem, and he helped demonstrate the unsolvability of Hilbert's tenth problem. He died in 2016.
